There are many kinds of Christmas movies, and each one represents a different aspect of the holiday. There are a variety of classics that will make you feel a certain way as you watch them, but there are also plenty of modern movies that will take your breath away and make you think about Christmas in new ways. So if you’re looking for something to watch this winter break, there’s something here for everyone!
Black Christmas
This is a pretty sickly-sweet horror film that features a bunch of fake deaths. It’s really fun to watch, and there are some great slashing scenes. There’s also a surprisingly good performance from Riley Dandy as Tori, who really makes her presence felt as a fierce, charismatic final girl. It’s not the best horror film of the year, but it is a nice change of pace from some of the other movies that I’ve seen so far this season.
Falling for Christmas
This Netflix film is a little batty by holiday movie standards, but it’s actually a very charming and lighthearted movie that’s a perfect way to get into the festive mood. The main plot, about a spoiled hotel heiress who gets into a skiing accident and suffers from total amnesia, isn’t too complex, but the love story between Sierra (Lindsay Lohan) and lodge owner Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet) is a sweet one that carries the whole thing through to the end.
The chemistry between Lohan and Overstreet isn’t as rip-roaring as it should be, but they do have a sweet earnestness that carries the relationship through the entire film. That’s a big part of what makes this movie work so well.
When you’re watching a movie like this it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of the moment and lose sight of the big picture. That’s what makes the amnesia a bit hard to follow, but I didn’t mind because I wasn’t expecting it to be so complicated.
Thankfully, there’s a lot of comedy that helps to keep the drama at bay and keeps the movie feeling fun. The comedy of errors that is often featured in holiday movies are present here, as the characters get into all sorts of mishaps that will put you in a jolly mood for the rest of the movie.
It’s a little hard to watch because it’s so cheesy but the movie is very enjoyable and I really enjoyed the performances by Lohan and Overstreet. I would definitely recommend this to a friend or family member who is looking for a fun and heartfelt movie to enjoy over the holidays.
This is the first time I’ve watched this movie and I loved it! The whole premise is really cool and I’m glad that I finally got to see it. I’m sure it will be a classic.
The Christmas Spirit
This is the first of a series of Christmas movies I’m going to be reviewing this month. If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments!
